Dog Days of Summer

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for following along with our blog. We know there haven't been many updates lately, but that's because there really hasn't been much to update about the adoption process.

So far this summer we successfully completed our home study update for 2018 and maintained our eligibility to have a child placed in our home. Fortunately, the process was much less intensive this year than it was last year completing our home study for the first time. We still had to obtain clearances from all of the states we've lived in along with a national FBI check, but all in all the process was much simpler. After that, there's not much left for us to do other than to wait patiently for our Baby Hogg. If you're wondering what you can do for us, please keep us in mind if you have friends or family considering adoption and feel free to share our profile with anyone.

So, what else have we been up to this summer? Here's a few things:

We've spent a lot of time outside working on the house with a few big projects to take care of before we're busy caring for children.

First, we worked to put a new roof and gutters on our house and garage.

Next, we worked tirelessly on the landscaping to clean up the flowerbeds of the house and spread 12 cubic yards of mulch!

12 yards of mulch (that's 5000-10,000 lbs!)

Mulch and shutters

Love the shutters Shana picked

So many beds to mulch!
In the end, I think the result is definitely worth all the sweat, wheel barrow trips, and the poison ivy rash I'm dealing with now! We are still working on one final project in the back yard for this year, but hope to have it finished up in the next month.

Now of course the summer hasn't been all work. We also had the opportunity to travel with our church to the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House to prepare food for the families staying with them during treatment at the excellent local children's hospitals. What a powerful event to be able to participate with, we were so blessed by all the great people we met.

Our apple pie we brought for dessert

Can't forget my favorite, summer blueberry pie
We still enjoy trips to local parks and nature preserves for hikes. These are Rosalind's favorite activity by far.

I'm still playing hockey weekly in a local men's team as well.

We've enjoyed some great summer cookouts with friends and even venture to a local vegan bakery every now and again for vegan soft serve ice cream that's Shana allergy friendly!

Chocolate brownie vegan soft serve and Roz the chocolate lab mix!
Finally, we made one other small addition to the backyard, a pool! No, not the type requiring excavation. The kind I can carry home from the hardware store like a giant turtle through the neighborhood since it doesn't fit in either car.

Made it!
Is this just a big water bowl????
Not so sure about this, my feet are cold! Brr
Well if Shana can do it, so can I!
For all the cat people out there, the cats are doing well and enjoying doing cat things like sitting and silently judging others.

Phew! That's a long post, sorry about that! We have a few fun activities coming up in the next few months so we will try to post some more updates soon.

A very special thanks to all our friends and family for your tireless support and constant encouragement as we continue on this adoption journey. Not being able to control the timeline is stressful, but we know we will find the child or children meant for us when our time arrives.

All our love,
Seth and Shana
