Our Story

We met in 2008 during our first year in graduate school. As a graduate student, you survive on free food, coffee, and friends that become your family. Following a Thanksgiving feast, we connected through a mutual friend exploring a Christmas light display at the zoo. There was instant chemistry (pun absolutely intended). Our personalities complemented each other and it was like we were old friends from the start. We were immediately inseparable and on our first real date, we ate Chinese food and watched Wall-E. Shana fell asleep that night and still hasn’t seen the ending.

In all honesty, our relationship hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows. We’ve encountered numerous bumps along the way and have grown stronger together through every challenge. Not only do we productively settle disagreements; we haven’t finished learning from each other and our experiences. We approach each challenge with love and understanding.

Seth proposed at the Grand Canyon and we married in October of 2014.  After a lot of thought and prayer, we believe that growing our family through adoption is what we are called to do. We are both thrilled at the chance to become parents and are looking forward to all of the giggles, messes, joys, and challenges of raising a child.

Although we are both highly educated and have earned doctorate degrees in the sciences, we rarely ever take ourselves too seriously. We enjoy weekend DIY projects, hiking, camping, baking, and board games. Essentially, we are two big kids who really enjoy adventure and learning. We have always talked about growing our family and sharing these moments with little ones. So, we are incredibly grateful to be a family waiting to be matched with a child and cannot wait to start this new chapter in our lives. We know that this process may take a while and will be emotionally difficult. However, we cannot wait for the day when we are able to bring home Baby Hogg.
