What's a Profile Book?

This week has been a bit overwhelming. But, a good overwhelming ... the kind of overwhelming that leaves your heart smiling and your belly filled with butterflies. Things are good, and that's where we need them to be. This is mainly because Seth and I are probably the most impatient people. We truly dislike sitting and waiting. Because of that, we have to be constantly doing something productive. (ahem ... our many recent adventures in upcycling furniture.) 😊 Once we are tasked with something we get right to it and don't stop until it's double checked and completed. So, since we've been tasked with waiting until we are matched with a wonderful birth family, we don't know what to do with ourselves. How can we wait 'faster'? So, we fill that void with projects to get ready for Baby Hogg.

Seth has been great at completing all of the construction tasks I've thought up along the way. No, seriously, I literally say, "Hey, this is a cool idea that we should consider and I think it should look like blah blah." And Seth jumps up, grabs all of his tools and jumps into it head first. By the end of the day, we've DIY'ed the heck out of something and we're eating Chipotle to celebrate on our back porch. (Burritos fix everything ... especially when they come with chips and guac.) 😁

I often keep busy with cleaning. How ridiculous, huh? But, seriously, you could eat off of my floors. Anything that I can do to prepare the house and keep my mind busy, I'm all for it.

But, this has been a lot of rambling to just get to my point of this entire blog post. A lot of people have asked similar questions lately. "How do you get matched?" "What is a profile book?" So, because I need to bide some time during this waiting process, I thought it would be best to take some time and show you all what our profile book looks like.

First, some background. Haven Adoptions had us working with our case worker, Patti and a graphic designer, Kara for this project. We were given a series of prompts to expand upon (with word counts! And if you know Seth and I - we can get wordy.) These prompts included: Tell us about you, What I love most about _____ through the eyes of ____, Tell us about your wedding, Describe your home and community, Top ten hobbies/interests, Tell us about your friends and family, Tell us about a family tradition, and even our favorite things. Overall, it seems easy peasy. But, let us tell you ... this was pretty difficult. You want to be able to put your best foot forward. Birth mothers and birth families are going to be using this to decide if you are a right fit for their child. But, because of that, you also don't want to sugar coat things either - you want to be real and honest. So, we let our nerd shine right on through. 😎 The profile book that Kara and Patti helped us create is Seth and Shana in book form. From our corny puns to our ridiculous quirks, Kara was able to take our answers to the prompts and design a beautiful profile for us.

Below are some excerpts from our own profile book. Please feel free to take a minute to look through the pages.

To everyone who has taken the time to read our posts and understand our journey, Seth and I would like to thank you. The outpouring of support and love that we've received has truly lifted our spirits. We are so incredibly lucky to have amazing friends and family to get us through this. We sincerely appreciate every hug, every smile, and every encouraging word. We can't thank you all enough.

Also, please feel free to share this blog/these posts with anyone and everyone. 😊 We know that we will be matched with Baby Hogg soon. But, if there is anyone out there that is considering adoption or making an adoption plan, we are here - waiting on Baby Hogg.

All of our love,
Shana and Seth
